TanK
Founded by painter Sylvain Tremblay and designer and light artist André Keilani, TanK is a laboratory for artistic and aesthetic research where visual art, light, and object converge.
Through their respective practices, the two creators explore how matter, colour, and light can transform our perception of the world. Their work is inspired by life itself, by the energy that continuously moves, evolves, and renews. They draw from the changing seasons, the distinctive qualities of natural light, and the subtle nuances that shape landscapes and influence our emotional states.
TanK embraces experimentation, uncertainty, and the unexpected. Tremblay and Keilani allow themselves to be surprised by a form, a colour, or a material. They divert objects from their intended functions, substitute, juxtapose, and reinterpret. For them, failure is not opposed to creation but an essential part of discovery. By pushing materials to their limits, they reveal possibilities that might otherwise remain hidden.

Their work brings together two complementary worlds: painting and the sculptural object. Light does not simply illuminate the artwork, it extends the painterly gesture, reveals its depth, and continuously alters the perception of colour. In return, painting gives light substance, memory, and presence. Together, these mediums transcend one another, creating works that feel alive and remain in constant transformation.
This dialogue introduces an ambiguity that liberates the work from the familiarity of the everyday object. Each piece exists simultaneously as sculpture, painting, luminous object, and contemplative space, inviting the viewer into a sensory experience that goes beyond simple observation.

The experience unfolds as the viewer becomes immersed in the light emitted by the artwork while engaging with the depth of its painted surface. The paint absorbs, reflects, and transforms the light, while the light reveals the richness of the painted layers, giving them a dynamic and ever-changing dimension. This continuous interaction creates a feeling of calm, presence, and serenity, making every encounter with the work unique.
Tremblay and Keilani have developed artworks whose colours can be adjusted according to the mood and preferences of their owner. Through different lighting configurations, each person can transform the atmosphere of their living space.

For Tremblay and Keilani, it is essential that their work transcend a purely aesthetic function. Each piece is conceived as an open metaphor, inviting continual reinterpretation and active participation. When switched off, the work reveals the richness of its painted surface, textures, and sculptural presence. When illuminated, it unveils another reality: light animates the colours, transforms the volumes, and reveals an entirely new work, alive, evolving, and continuously changing. The artwork therefore exists in two complementary states.
The collector is no longer a passive observer. By customizing the lighting configurations, they actively participate in the artwork and make it their own. Their intervention becomes an integral part of the creative process.
TanK’s production methods combine artistic sensitivity with artisanal expertise. Like the synergistic relationship between Tremblay and Keilani, each luminous work emerges from a dialogue between the organic and the industrial, the new and the reclaimed, intuitive expression and technical precision, painting and light. From the creative tension between these apparent opposites, TanK finds its distinctive balance.
